Herbs and the zodiac is an important topic for magickal correspondences. Just like your people friends, every herb has specific skills (properties) and other friendships (associations). When working with lunar cycles, you can enhance you magick through the inclusion of herbs that associate with the astrological sign the moon is in. In addition to the astrological sign, you should evaluate the magickal properties of the herb to make sure they relate to the intent. Picking the right plant friend is like asking a plumber friend to help with plumbing and not asking them to rewiring a fuse box.
Here are some ideas on how to incorporate herbs in your magickal work. Use the ideas to develop your own way to add them to your work. We’d like to hear of your ideas so share them in the comments section.
- Combine herbs in a sachet with the zodiac drawn on it.
- Infuse the herb in the sacred cup.
- Powder the herb and burn as incense. (!Not all herbs are safe to burn!)
- Sprinkle the herb around the altar or sacred space.
- Add the herb to your spell work items.
- Anoint a candle with an essential oil or zodiac blend then roll the candle in powdered herbs.
Rev.Paul Beyerl’s book A Compendium of Herbal Magick is valuable resource for working with herbs in a magickal or metaphysical context. This list is compiled from his book. We’ve only listed the herbs we carry and common herbs and plants you may already have, there’s much more in Rev. Paul’s book. We hope this information helps you on your journey.
