How to use Herbs and the Zodiac in Magic
This brings us to sympathetic magick. That means combining characteristics to increase the power or energy of magic. It’s easier to explain this with an example.
Let’s say you are doing a spell for emotional protection. That would relate to Cancer, which is a water sign, ruled by the Moon, that exalts Jupiter, is the Fall of Mars and diminished Saturn. There can be much more to this, but those are the basic relationships.
Next, Cancer zodiac relates to emotions and self-healing, the same as the element water. The Moon narrates our emotional outlook and responses. Jupiter gives us the framework for self-actualization.
Consequently, you’re looking for herbs and crystals with properties related to emotions, stability, and protection. In addition, you want them to be associated with any of: Cancer, water, Moon and Jupiter. These herbs are sympathetic and would be beneficial in your magic work. It’s like adding friends to your circle.
We should leave herbs for Mars and Saturn out because they don’t work well with cancer. You can use them in a Cancer spell but that can get complicated and is off-topic.
You will find the “rules” for these associations are easy. While Mars and Saturn are weaker in Cancer, there are still herbs for Cancer zodiac associated with them. Again, it get’s complicated, even I find new rules in texts occasionally.
