We believe the over use of the word Smudge is disrespectful to the spiritual practices of the Indigenous peoples. (Although, it is a European word.) Hermits’ Cupboard prefers the terms FUMIGATION, CERIMONIAL FUMIGATION, SACRED SMOKE or SMOKE CLEANSING. We use the term Smudge only because it is more commonly used in searches.
