Description

This cobalt blue suribachi is an efficient friend when it comes to grinding.  This traditional Japanese ceramic mortar has an unglazed interior with sharp ridges and a wood pestle. The sharp ridges hold herb material in place and prevents sliding allowing you to grind your seeds, roots, and nuts with ease.  We do not recommend grinding resin’s or crystals with your suribachi.

To clean your suribachi, use a soft bristled brush to remove excess material then rinse with hot water.  Don’t use soap as the unglazed ceramic will absorb the soap.

The mortar and pestle is a common tool across the ages of the Occult and Metaphysic practitioners. It’s important to realize that they have been found in some form since pre-history. Consequently our magickal ancestors probably used them before the wand. As long as there have been healers and workers of the natural arts, the mortar and pestle have been there, an integral part of magick.

Use your suribachi for reducing herbs for magickal concoctions. As a matter of fact, you could have one for the kitchen and one for magick. Although, you could just as easily use one for all your needs.

When choosing a mortar and pestle, consider the type of substance you will be grinding.

Herbs

When grinding flowers, leaves and soft stems choose any material for a mortar and pestle.

Herbaceous hard stems, and roots will require hard woods (like olive wood), hard or soft stone or metal.

Extremely hard roots, barks, and resins are best ground in a hard stone (granite, marble) or metal mortar and pestles like brass, bronze, or iron.

Grind the salts in any mortar and pestle except those made of soft wood like pine or poplar.

Crystals

Yes, crystals! Pulverizing crystals necessitates a hard stone, or metal mortar and pestle. Wood mortars of any sort will not hold do a good job.
